First of all, I’d like to start off this post by saying I cannot believe I’m even typing up a post about being pregnant with a toddler. Because I didn’t think I’d want another baby after experiencing a very colicky first baby.
But after a whole year of talking to my husband about growing our family again, we knew it was the perfect time to try again.
So here I am going through my pregnancy with a toddler typing up some pointers for you brave mamas who are currently pregnant with a toddler or planning on joining this very fun, wild ride.
10 Tips For The Moms Who Are Pregnant With A Toddler
Hopefully, these tips help whether you’re a pregnant stay at home mom with a toddler, coping with a clingy toddler while pregnant, or a working pregnant mom with a toddler.
1. Listen to your body
This is so much easier said than done. Especially for the hardheaded moms like myself.
If your body (or baby that’s growing inside of you), is hinting to you that you need to take it easy and forget those dishes in the sink, then sit down.
It’s too easy to get lost in the endless daily chores of being a stay-at-home mom, working mom, homemaker, let alone being pregnant with a toddler.
In order for your pregnancy to go smoothly and without unnecessary complications all while raising another little human, it’s best to take it easy.
2. Stay hydrated
This is one of the easiest, yet most forgettable task for anyone.
Did you know that dehydration can cause contractions? It’s especially important for moms who are pregnant with a toddler to be well hydrated as you’re running around keeping up with your little one while growing one as well.
One of the easiest ways to stay hydrated is to get a water bottle that helps you keep track.
3. Take advantage of your toddler’s nap time
Being well rested is a must during pregnancy. And you probably remember how nice it was to nap whenever you pleased during your first pregnancy (because there wasn’t another little human tugging at you).
Unfortunately, you don’t get that kind of luxury being pregnant with toddler. But that doesn’t mean napping or getting rest is impossible!
When your toddler naps, you nap. If you’ve got to sip on some sleepy time tea to make yourself relax and nap, then do it!
4. Ask for help
There’s nothing wrong with asking for help. As an army wife who lived in a whole different state from close friends and family, it was a bit intimidating reaching out for help.
But I promise there are so many resources out there if you don’t have any friends or family that can help.
Facebook has a ton of groups that have a lot of members who own a daycare business or babysitting business where they can help watch your toddler for a couple of hours so that you can use it to either sleep or run errands.
If you have a hard time trusting people (like myself), then you can always ask for references or even talk to some locals about who they trust to watch their kids.
5. Schedule lots of play dates
Sometimes, the best way to keep your toddler happy and occupied is by adding another toddler or two in the mix.
Make some mom friends whose kids are in similar age groups for play dates. Toddlers playing with other toddlers not only help their social skills but also helps them expend the extra energy.
And after a nice long play date, both you and your toddler will be ready for a nice nap.
6. Keep your toddler fed
Always shoot for 3 meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And healthy snacks throughout the day to keep their bellies nice and full.
Carry a handy dandy snack container at all times (especially when you’re out of the house with them).
A hungry toddler is no fun to deal with whether you’re pregnant or not.

7. Always have toys and snacks laying around you
This goes along with the previous tip. Keeping both toys and snacks around you to feed your toddler will help keep them occupied and satisfied as long as possible so you can sit and prop your feet up.
Also the snacks can even be beneficial for you to keep your blood sugar steady.
8. Stay active as much as your body can handle
It’s not easy working out or even getting out of bed in the mornings when you’re pregnant.
But staying active during your pregnancy will keep your weight gain at a healthy range and minimize labor complications.
Although staying active might not be an issue being pregnant with a toddler, there are several ways to get your heart rate going while incorporating play time with your little one.
For example, you could go for a fast walk or light jog in the mornings with your toddler in the stroller. Depending on how active you were before pregnancy and what trimester you’re in, there are exercises incorporating lifting your toddler while pregnant and doing squats for a full body exercise.
9. Soak in as much cuddle time with your toddler
It can get pretty emotional as you near the end of your second pregnancy. And that’s because you start to realize your first baby won’t be your only baby anymore.
I got pretty emotional a few times throughout my second pregnancy wondering how I’d ever love my second daughter as much as I love my first (which is completely normal apparently after speaking with many other moms).
My friends with multiple kids reassured me that you have great love for each one of your children and their different personalities. And when you give birth to your second (third, fourth, fifth, etc) baby, you fall in love all over again.
And that made me incredibly happy.
But those 9 months will go by quicker than you think, so soak up the extra time and energy you have with your first love.
10. Be patient
Whether it’s your toddler or the pregnancy hormones, you’re bound to lose patience and go a little bit bonkers.
But take a deep breath.
If it’s more rest that you need, take the necessary steps to prioritize rest. Or maybe you’re well rested and just feeling extra stressed and overwhelmed. Then, go for a light jog and exercise (exercising releases natural happy hormones).
Last Bits Of Being Pregnant With A Toddler
Being pregnant should bring you happiness and lots of joy. And I’m not saying every day will be sunshines and rainbows.
